Miami in November 2026: Weather, Events and Prices
Flying to Miami in the first three weeks of November gets you warm, drier weather at shoulder-season hotel rates, while Thanksgiving week (from Saturday 21 November 2026) gets you the same weather at holiday prices and with American family crowds. For most people coming from Amsterdam, the first three weeks win: typical November afternoons in Miami reach about 26 to 28°C according to NOAA's 1991 to 2020 climate normals, and the Atlantic is still warm enough for a proper swim.
Swap Amsterdam's grey drizzle and a sunset before five for beach afternoons, and November starts to look like one of the smartest months on this route. Here's what the month actually looks like, what it costs and where people trip up.
The November numbers
Miami in November is warm, mostly dry and still officially in hurricane season until the 30th. The summer humidity breaks, the daily thunderstorms fade and the dry season settles in over the course of the month.
Weather and daylight
Typical November days in Miami run at about 26 to 28°C with nights around 19 to 22°C, according to NOAA's 1991 to 2020 climate normals for Miami International Airport. Every so often a cold front pushes through and nights dip into the mid-teens for a day or two, which locals treat as an event and you'll treat as pleasant.
Sea temperatures off Miami Beach sit at roughly 25 to 27°C in November, according to NOAA's coastal water temperature guide. Rain falls far less than in the June to September wet season, usually as short showers that pass within the hour rather than all-day washouts.
Daylight shrinks from about 11 hours at the start of the month to about 10.5 hours by the end. After the US clock change, the sun sets around 17:30 in Miami, roughly 40 to 60 minutes later than in Amsterdam, and you get two or more extra hours of daylight a day.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NOAA), 2026. November storms are uncommon but not unheard of: Hurricane Nicole made landfall on Florida's Atlantic coast on 10 November 2022.
Dates that matter in November 2026
- Sunday 1 November: US clocks go back an hour. Europe already switched on 25 October, so from 1 November Miami is six hours behind Amsterdam again.
- Wednesday 11 November: Veterans Day, a US federal holiday. Banks and government offices close; shops and beaches don't.
- Mid to late November: the Miami Book Fair, held every year on the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus downtown. Exact dates change annually, so check miamibookfair.com.
- Thursday 26 November: Thanksgiving, followed by Black Friday on 27 November. Expect busy malls, booked restaurants and a full Miami Beach that weekend.
- Early December: Art Basel Miami Beach. It isn't a November event, but hotel prices start climbing in the last days of November ahead of it. Dates are on artbasel.com.
Stone crab season is the delicious constant in the background: the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission opens the season on 15 October and closes it on 1 May, so November claws are fresh and plentiful. NBA basketball (Miami Heat) and NFL football (Miami Dolphins) are both mid-season.
On the Dutch side, November sits between the autumn holiday (herfstvakantie, in October) and the Christmas holiday in the second half of December, so there are no national school holidays pushing up demand from the Netherlands. Regional dates are on rijksoverheid.nl. You'll also miss the Sinterklaas arrival in mid-November, which some will count as a bonus.
Prices and entry costs
Miamiamsterdam.com doesn't track fares on the Amsterdam to Miami route yet, so there's no November fare figure here, and any number you see quoted elsewhere is not ours. When tracking starts, it will appear in the fare calendar for Amsterdam and Miami. Until then, the pattern is easy to read: early and mid November tend to be quieter, while flights landing around Thanksgiving fill with US travellers. Compare dates yourself and search Amsterdam to Miami flights across a few November weeks before committing.
KLM flies nonstop from Schiphol to Miami International Airport (MIA), and Delta, American and others connect via US hubs. The nonstop costs you less time; a connection sometimes costs you less money.
Hotels follow the same calendar. November is shoulder season heading into the December to April peak, so Miami Beach and Brickell rates in the first half of the month usually sit well below winter levels, then rise from Thanksgiving week into Art Basel week.
The ESTA application fee is USD 40, according to US Customs and Border Protection, 2025. ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is the online travel authorisation that Dutch citizens need instead of a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days under the Visa Waiver Program; it's normally valid for two years.
The trip, step by step
Plan a November Miami trip in this order: entry paperwork, flights, where you'll sleep, then the handful of things worth booking ahead.
- Apply for ESTA. Use only the official site, esta.cbp.dhs.gov, and apply at least 72 hours before departure, as CBP recommends. Most approvals come back much faster.
- Pick your week. Aim for 1 to 20 November if you want lower hotel rates and calmer streets. Choose Thanksgiving week only if you specifically want the holiday buzz.
- Book your base. South Beach suits a first trip built around the sea and the Art Deco District; Brickell suits city breaks with restaurants and rooftop bars; Coconut Grove is the quiet, leafy option. For beach weeks, look at hotels in South Beach and check the total price including resort fees. Our first-stay hotel price guide lays out what to expect by area.
- Book the November-only things. Restaurant tables for Thanksgiving week, Miami Book Fair events with named authors, and any Everglades tours go first. Everything else can wait until you land.
- Sort data before you fly. Install a travel eSIM at home so it activates when you land at MIA; a Miami arrival eSIM beats paying roaming rates on a Dutch bundle.
- Pack light, plus one layer. Shorts, linen, swimwear, sandals and walking shoes, plus a light jumper for aggressive air conditioning and the odd cool evening. Bring a US plug adapter (type A or B, 120 volts) and sunscreen: the November sun is still strong.
Best in November, and one skip
The Everglades. November is the start of the dry season, when wildlife gathers around shrinking water and mosquitoes ease off. Shark Valley and the Anhinga Trail at Royal Palm are the classic stops in Everglades National Park, and a one-day car hire in Miami is the simplest way to get west along the Tamiami Trail.
Stone crabs. Fresh claws are at their best and most available now. Joe's Stone Crab in South Beach is the institution, but plenty of fish markets serve them for less.
Little Havana and Wynwood on foot. The cooler air makes November ideal for walking Calle Ocho, Domino Park and the Wynwood Walls murals without melting. A guided Little Havana or Wynwood walking tour earns its fee for the food and history alone.
The Miami Book Fair. The street fair weekend downtown is lively, cheap and very Miami, even if you don't buy a single book.
Skip: a rental car for the whole week. Parking in South Beach and Brickell is expensive and slow to find. Rent for the Everglades day, and use rideshare, Metrorail and the free trolleys the rest of the time.
The usual November slip-ups
The most common mistake is treating November as safely outside hurricane season. It mostly is, but buy travel insurance that covers weather disruption, and keep an eye on the National Hurricane Center if you travel in the first half of the month.
The clock change catches people too. If you book calls or transfers in the last days of October, remember Miami is five hours behind Amsterdam until 1 November, then six.
Late November bookings creep into Art Basel pricing. If your stay runs past the 28th, check the Art Basel dates before you book, because rates can jump sharply overnight.
Third-party ESTA sites charge a markup for filling in the same form. Only esta.cbp.dhs.gov is official. More entry basics are in our short answers to common corridor questions.
Miami Beach bills hide extras. Many restaurants add an automatic service charge, so read the receipt before tipping 18 to 20% on top, and many hotels add a nightly resort fee that isn't in the headline rate. Sales tax is added at the till, not shown on the price tag.
When a card terminal offers to charge you in euros, decline and pay in US dollars. The conversion rate offered at the terminal is almost always worse than your Dutch bank's.
Miami and Amsterdam in November, side by side
The gap between the two cities in November is the whole case for the trip: roughly 17°C warmer days, a swimmable sea and two extra hours of light.
| City | Day high (°C) | Night low (°C) | Sea temperature (°C) | Daylight (hours) | Sunset (local time) | Rain pattern |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Miami | 26 to 28 | 19 to 22 | 25 to 27 | 10.5 to 11 | about 17:30 | Short showers, drying through the month |
| Amsterdam | 9 to 11 | 4 to 6 | 10 to 12 | 8 to 9.5 | 16:30 to 17:05 | Frequent, often grey and windy |
These ranges are rounded climate norms from NOAA and KNMI (the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute), not miamiamsterdam.com data, and any given week can run warmer or cooler.
The verdict
Go, and go between 1 and 20 November. You get summer weather without summer humidity, a sea that's still warm, stone crab season and shoulder-season hotel rates, with no Dutch school holiday driving up demand from Schiphol. Book Thanksgiving week only if you want the holiday itself, and plan around Art Basel if your dates slide into December.
