Miami in February: Weather, Events and Prices for 2027

8 min read

A February week in Miami gives you dry, sunny days around 24 to 25°C at peak-season hotel prices, while the same week in late April gives you hotter, stickier days for noticeably less. February wins for most people flying from Amsterdam: the gap between Schiphol drizzle and South Florida sun is at its widest, and the weather is about as dependable as Miami gets.

The catch is price and crowds. February is the heart of Miami's high season, so book early and steer clear of two weeks: the US Presidents' Day weekend and your own region's Dutch spring break.

What's the weather in Miami in February?

Miami in February is warm, dry and sunny. Daytime highs typically sit around 24 to 25°C and nights fall to about 16 to 17°C, based on the 1991 to 2020 climate normals for Miami International Airport published by NOAA's National Weather Service.

February is firmly inside Miami's dry season, which runs roughly November to April. Rainfall averages around 50 to 55 mm for the whole month, usually as short showers rather than grey, rained-off days. Humidity is low by Miami standards, which is the real luxury here.

The Atlantic off Miami Beach is usually about 22 to 23°C in February. That's swimmable for anyone used to the North Sea, a bit brisk for locals (you'll see them on the sand, not in the water).

The one wildcard is the cold front. A few times each winter, a front pushes down from the north and nights drop to 10 to 12°C for a day or two, with a stiff breeze on the beach. It never lasts long, but it's why you pack a sweater.

Daylight runs from about 11 hours at the start of February to about 11.5 hours by the end, with sunset moving from roughly 18:10 to 18:25. Miami is 6 hours behind Amsterdam in February (Eastern Standard Time against Central European Time).

What does a February trip to Miami cost in 2027?

A February trip to Miami costs more than the same trip in any summer month, because February is peak season for hotels on Miami Beach and in Brickell. Expect hotel rates near their highest of the year, and higher again on Presidents' Day weekend and during the big annual events.

Fares for Amsterdam to Miami are not tracked by miamiamsterdam.com yet, so we can't give you a February figure. What we can say is qualitative: fares from Schiphol tend to climb in the Dutch spring break weeks, and flying midweek outside those weeks usually helps. You can compare current options with this flight search from Amsterdam to Miami, and the fare calendar on our flights page will show February once tracking starts on this route.

KLM runs the nonstop from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Miami International Airport, roughly 10 hours westbound. One-stop itineraries via US hubs or other European cities are often cheaper but add several hours. If you connect inside the US, you clear immigration at your first US airport, not in Miami.

The one fixed fee to budget is the ESTA. The ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is the online permit Dutch passport holders need to visit the US for up to 90 days under the Visa Waiver Program. The ESTA application fee is USD 40, according to US Customs and Border Protection, 2025. Apply only on the official CBP site; lookalike sites charge more for the same form.

Hotel bills in Miami also carry extras that the headline rate hides. Florida and Miami-Dade add tourist and sales taxes, and many Miami Beach hotels add a nightly resort fee. Compare total prices, not the big number on the listing. Our hotel prices page is a good place to sanity-check a first stay.

What's on in Miami in February 2027?

February in Miami is festival month, and these events recur every year, though exact dates move, so check each organiser's website before you book.

  • Presidents' Day is a US federal holiday on the third Monday of February, which in 2027 is Monday 15 February. Americans turn it into a long weekend, and Miami fills up.
  • Coconut Grove Arts Festival is a large outdoor art fair along the bayfront in Coconut Grove, traditionally held on Presidents' Day weekend.
  • Miami International Boat Show (officially the Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show) usually runs for five days in mid February, with venues on Miami Beach and the bay. It pushes up hotel rates noticeably that week.
  • South Beach Wine & Food Festival usually takes place over a long weekend in the second half of February, mostly on Miami Beach, with ticketed tastings and dinners.
  • Valentine's Day falls on Sunday 14 February 2027, the same weekend as Presidents' Day, so restaurant tables will be scarce.

On the Dutch side, the voorjaarsvakantie (also called krokusvakantie) is the week-long school spring break, staggered across the north, middle and south regions between mid February and early March. Carnival in 2027 starts on 7 February, so the south's break is likely early that month. Check the official 2027 dates per region on Rijksoverheid before booking, because fares from Schiphol rise during these weeks.

US college spring break mostly hits in March, so February stays calmer on that front.

How do you plan a February trip to Miami from Amsterdam?

Plan a February trip to Miami by fixing your dates first, then the ESTA, then flights and hotel, in that order.

  1. Pick your dates. The sweet spot is the first or last week of February, away from Presidents' Day weekend and your region's voorjaarsvakantie. If you want an event, book around it deliberately rather than stumbling into it.
  2. Apply for your ESTA. Do it as soon as you've picked dates. Most applications come back fast, but give it at least 72 hours before departure.
  3. Book your flight. Decide between the KLM nonstop and a cheaper one-stop. For a week-long trip, the nonstop is worth paying for: you land with an evening still in front of you.
  4. Choose your base. South Beach is the classic and the loudest. Coconut Grove is leafy, walkable and quieter, and it's where the arts festival happens; hotels in Coconut Grove make a good base if you plan to drive out of town. Brickell suits city-break types.
  5. Sort data and transport. Set up a travel eSIM for data on arrival before you fly so you can call a ride from MIA straight away. Hire a car only for the days you leave the city, because hotel parking on Miami Beach is expensive.
  6. Pack. Light clothes and swimwear for the day, a sweater or light jacket for evenings, cold fronts and aggressively air-conditioned restaurants, plus high-factor sunscreen. US sockets are type A and B at 120 volts, so bring an adapter.

What's genuinely best in February

Four things are better in February than at any other time:

  • Everglades National Park. The dry season concentrates wildlife around the remaining water, and mosquitoes are at their most tolerable. The Anhinga Trail near the Royal Palm entrance is the easy win for alligators and wading birds. A guided Everglades airboat or wildlife tour works if you'd rather not drive.
  • Key Biscayne. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park has calmer water and fewer people than South Beach, and a February afternoon there is close to perfect.
  • A day trip down the Florida Keys. The Overseas Highway is at its best in clear winter light. Car hire in Miami for one day is enough to reach Islamorada and back, or push on to Key Largo's snorkelling spots.
  • Eating outdoors. Little Havana, Wynwood and the Grove are made for terraces, and February is the one month you can sit outside at lunch without wilting.

Skip: dinner on Ocean Drive. The menus are overpriced, the drinks are oversized and the street is louder than the food deserves. Walk one or two blocks inland and you'll eat better for less.

What do people get wrong about Miami in February?

The most common mistake is assuming every February day is a beach day. Most are, but a cold front can leave you with two windy, 18°C days, so build a flexible plan with indoor options such as the Pérez Art Museum Miami or the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.

The second is booking Presidents' Day weekend by accident. Combine it with the Coconut Grove Arts Festival and Valentine's Day, as 2027 does, and you'll pay top rates for crowded beaches and fully booked restaurants.

The third is underestimating the sun. The UV index in Miami in February is strong enough to burn pale Dutch skin within an hour, even when the air feels mild.

A few edge cases worth knowing:

  • Fort Lauderdale is an alternative. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is about 40 minutes north and sometimes cheaper on one-stop routings, but factor in the transfer.
  • Tolls catch out car renters. Many Miami highways use cashless tolls, and rental companies charge admin fees on top. Ask about their toll package at the desk.
  • ESTA eligibility has limits. Some travel histories and dual nationalities rule out the ESTA and require a full visa from the US Embassy in The Hague, which takes far longer. Check early if that might be you.

How does Miami in February compare with Amsterdam?

Miami in February is roughly 18°C warmer by day than Amsterdam, with similar rainfall but far more sunshine. The figures below are typical climate norms, rounded, based on NOAA's National Weather Service for Miami and KNMI for Amsterdam (1991 to 2020 normals).

February normsMiamiAmsterdam
Daytime high (°C)24 to 256 to 7
Night low (°C)16 to 170 to 1
Sea temperature (°C)22 to 235 to 6
Rainfall (mm per month)50 to 5545 to 55
Daylight (hours)11 to 11.59.5 to 11
SeasonPeak tourist seasonLow season

The rainfall rows look similar, which is misleading: Miami's rain arrives in short bursts between long sunny spells, while Amsterdam's comes as grey, drizzly days.

Should you go to Miami in February?

Go. February is Miami's best month for weather, and nothing in March beats it except the price. Book for the first or last week of the month, avoid Presidents' Day weekend and your region's school break, stay in Coconut Grove or Key Biscayne rather than on Ocean Drive, and spend at least one day in the Everglades. If budget matters more than reliable sunshine, late April is the better deal. For the short answers on visas, money and arrival, see our corridor FAQ.
